OCTAGON assigned general subcontractor to PC Business Center office building, located in northern Bucharest

Bucharest, August 14th 2014: OCTAGON CONTRACTING & ENGINEERING, a company specialized in civil and geotechnical construction works, has become general subcontractor for an office building- PC Business Center, located in the north of the capital. Construction works are worth approximately 2 million Euro.

PC Business Center is located on 7-9 Bucharest- Ploiesti road. The building has two underground and 9 ground levels and is located near Sector 1 City Hall. Iridex Group Import Export is the developer and general contractor of the project.

OCTAGON took over the project in the autumn of 2013, as specialized contractor, and has performed special foundation and infrastructure works: diaphragm walls D 600, bored piles D 620,crown beam, excavation and metal retaining systems, dewatering systems, foundation raft S2, S1, hydroinsulation of underground and water basin. Works were completed in May 2014.

The execution of the superstructure works has been added to the initial contract and OCTAGON has become general subcontractor to PC Business Center. Construction works have reached the 3rd level of the building. This is one of the three major office projects built by OCTAGON in Bucharest, between 2013- 2014, along Green Court Bucharest (2-4 Gara Herastrau St.) and Hermes Business Campus (7- 9 Dimitrie Pompeiu Blvd.).

OCTAGON HAS STARTED INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS WORTH AROUND 3 MIL. EURO IN 2014

Bucharest, September 10th 2014:  OCTAGON CONTRACTING & ENGINEERING, one of the major players on the geotechnical and civil construction markets in Romania, has won road infrastructure projects worth around 3 million euro in 2014.

“Even if infrastructure has not been a priority for public investments this year and the market is not going through a dynamic period, we have four new ongoing projects and we are continuing works at the rehabilitation of Brasov- Simeria railroad, a project started in 2012.  But the perspectives for infrastructure development are positive. After four years of slowdown, the infrastructure will inevitably become the engine of the construction market development.” said Mr. Alexandros Ignatiadis, co-founder and shareholder of OCTAGON CONTRACTING & ENGINEERING.

OCTAGON is geotechnical construction contractor at one of the most important infrastructure projects in Bucharest: ”The underground road passage from Piata Presei”, where the company is building diaphragm walls.  The passage will have a total length of 550 meters and two exits. One of the exits will lead to Kiseleff Road and the second one will lead to Marasti Blvd.,  allow crossing the area on any direction and subsequently connect public ground transport, the railway line and the bus lines, with the station of the future metro line 6. The purpose of the passage is to streamline the traffic in one of the most crowded areas of the capital.  

Another important project under construction, within which OCTAGON is working, is Lugoj- Deva Highway. The company is building bored piles for sections A, D and E, sector 2. The highway will stretch over 100 km on delivery.  Sector 2 will be 28 km long.

OCTAGON is performing foundation works: bored piles and sheet piles at the project “Passage over the rail road km 5 + 343” in Craiova.

The fourth project started this year by OCTAGON is “Functional rehabilitation of Revolutiei Square from Slobozia”. The company is part of ACM4- Romprest- TIAB- OCTAGON Consortium and is performing geotechnical works: metal sheet piles and drilling for dewatering systems, within a parking lot project.

OCTAGON building the second stage of the office complex Hermes Business Campus

Bucharest, October 15th 2014: OCTAGON CONTRACTING & ENGINEERING, a company that specializes in civil and geotechnical construction works, started works on building C of the office complex Hermes Business Campus. The complex will be developed in three stages and this is the second stage. The works performed by OCTAGON will have a total value of 6.2 mil euro.

OCTAGON will build the infrastructure, consisting in diaphragm walls D 800, bored piles D 1,000 and D 1,500, foundation raft, crown beam. The company will also execute the superstructure of building C.

“The fact that we are continuing works on the second stage of the complex Hermes Business Campus allows us to use the experience accumulated in the first stage to obtain better results and contributes to the project coherence. Construction works on building C started in September, and now we are building the special foundations.” said Mr. Alexandros Ignatiadis, co- founder and shareholder of OCTAGON CONTRACTING & ENGINEERING.

In July 2014 OCTAGON delivered the first stage of the project. The company was general contractor for building B within the complex, developed by NGY Properties Investment, the Romanian branch of the Belgian group Atenor. The building covers 37,000 sqm, has 4 underground floors, 8 ground floors and one technical floor and has been fully leased.

Hermes Business Campus is the first investment of Atenor Group in Romania. Works started at the end of 2010, when OCTAGON won the infrastructure contract, consisting in the execution of  diaphragm walls, bored piles, excavation and foundation in top-down system, as well as the execution of the structure of levels -3 and -4.

In 2013 OCTAGON took over the general contractor role from the Austrian company Alpine and continued with the execution of reinforced concreting works on the superstructure, architecture, electrical installations and HVAC.

Building B obtained BREEAM certification with excellent grade for the execution of the superstructure.

OCTAGON delivers works worth 19 mil. euro to building B of Hermes Business Campus Complex

Bucharest, Romania: OCTAGON CONTRACTING & ENGINEERING, with a 9-year experience on the civil and geotechnical construction market delivered works to one of the largest office complexes in Bucharest: Hermes Business Campus. OCTAGON was general contractor for building B of the complex, developed by NGY Properties Investment, the Romanian branch of the Belgian group Atenor. The building has a total leasable area of 18,000 sqm and is the first development stage of the project.

Hermes Business Campus is the first investment of Atenor Group in Romania. The project began at the end of 2010, when OCTAGON was awarded the infrastructure works, consisting in the execution of diaphragm walls, bored piles, excavation and foundation in top- down system for the underground levels 4 and 3.

In 2012 OCTAGON was contracted by Austrian construction company Alpine Bau, to execute concreting works, worth 3 million euro, for the building superstructure.

In 2013 OCTAGON took over the general contracting works from the Austrian company and continued the superstructure works, consisting in architecture, electrical installations, sanitary installations and HVAC.

Hermes Business Campus office complex, located in the north of Bucharest, on Dimitrie Pompeiu Blvd. will be built in several stages and will have a total area of 78,000 sqm. Hermes will be audited in order to obtain BREEAM certification for “green” buildings.

Bucharest, October 2nd 2013:  Construction company OCTAGON CONTRACTING & ENGINEERING has launched a new website, on the anniversary of 8 years of activity. The new webiste is superior to the previous one through design and functioning and reflects the current image and identity of the company.

The website can be accessed at www.octagon.com.ro and includes detailed information about the company’s history, team, certificates, services and projects delivered by OCTAGON in Romania, Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria and Iraq. The content is accessible to both Romanian and foreign visitors, the information being available in Romania, English and Arabic languages.  For a more accurate presentation of the works performed by OCTAGON, the projects include photos from all the execution stages. The section “Careers” includes available positions within the companies and candidates may apply online.

The new webiste features modern design, has been created with the help of the latest new technologies and can be easily accessed from all the devices connected to internet: desktop, laptop, tablet, mobile phone. The website has been created by Tesseract S.R.L., a young Romanian company, in full development. The services provided by Tesseract include development of mobile and web applications, SEM (Search Engine Marketing) and SEO(Search Engine Optimization) consultancy and implementation.

OCTAGON ends 2011 on profit

OCTAGON’s profit went up 23% in 2011, against 2010. OCTAGON last year signed new contracts worth 3 million Euro and performed works worth 12.5 million Euro.

Bucharest, February 14th 2012: OCTAGON CONTRACTING & ENGINEERING S.A., contractor of civil and geotechnical construction works, posted a profit of 581,000 Euro in 2011.  The profit went up 23%, against 2010, when it stood at 473.000 Euro.

Alexandros Ignatiadis, OCTAGON’s CEO, said: “The Romanian construction market remained little attractive for both private investors and the state in 2011 also. Yet, the office and retail segments had a visibly upward evolution, while the residential segment was still affected by the crisis. 2011 was a dynamic year for the infrastructure, an area which will remain effervescent in 2012 also.”

In 2011, OCTAGON performed works worth 12.5 million Euro, as subcontractor of geotechnical and infrastructure works. The value of the new contracts signed by the company in Romania reached 3 million Euro.

2011 also brought an important acquisition for OCTAGON and the expansion of the activity on a Middle East market. OCTAGON invested 2.5 million Euro in the acquisition of the majority share package (58.5%) of the construction warehouse, Comat Electro. The warehouse includes 89,000 sqm of land plot and 20,000 sqm of industrial spaces.

In 2011 OCTAGON opened the first branch abroad, in Baghdad, Iraq, a country where it is targeting projects especially in the infrastructure segment.

OCTAGON signs 5 million Euro contract for infrastructure works at Hermes Business Campus

Bucharest, December 7th, 2010: OCTAGON CONTRACTING & ENGINEERING S.A., civil and geotechnical projects contractor, will build the foundation of the office project Hermes Business Campus. The project will be developed in Bucharest, sector 2, on Blvd. Dimitrie Pompei 5-7.

OCTAGON was designated direct contractor for the execution of the geotechnical works within the project, by Belgian developer Atenor Group, and will build the foundation of two  underground levels, through top- down excavation. The works performed by OCTAGON will include the construction of the diaphragm walls, excavation, execution of the foundation and of the 4th and 3rd  levels structures.

The company also used the top- down system for the execution of the geotechnical works at the office projects Cathedral Plaza ( Str. General Berthelot), Floreasca City Center- Sky Tower (Blvd. Floreasca), Charles de Gaulle Plaza (Piata Charles de Gaulle) and of the four star hotel Novotel (Calea Victoriei), in top- down system as well.

OCTAGON started the works at Hermes Business Campus in October 2010 and will deliver the project in November 2011. The value of the contract is 5 million Euro.

Construction market recovery, fragile in 2011

The construction market kept declining in 2010, following the small number of real estate projects launched this yeas and the low investments made by both private and public sector. 2011 remains a year dominated by uncertainty for the construction market, influenced by the evolution of the Euro zone. The perspective of a slight recovery, supported by the road infrastructure projects auctioned by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure exists.

Alexandros Ignatiadis, CEO OCTAGON, says: “The recovery of the construction market will be fragile in 2011, due to the uncertainty in the Euro zone. The future of the construction firms in the region is in Africa.”

Hermes Business Campus is the first real estate project developed by Atenor Group in Romania.

The office project will have 78,000 sqm of lettable space and will be built on 14 levels, four of which will be underground. Hermes Business Campus will be built in stages. Financial results June 2010

Success story in full financial crisis: OCTAGON turnover jumped to 7.7 million Euro in the first half of the year

Bucharest, December 1st , 2010: OCTAGON CONTRACTING & ENGINEERING S.A., civil and geotechnical projects contractor, reported a 7.7  million Euro  turnover in June 2010, more than double than the 3.7 million Euro turnover, registered in June 2009.

The company's profit also climbed significantly to 275 thousand Euro, against 45.2 thousand Euro  in June 2009.

Mr. Alexandros Ignatiadis, CEO of OCTAGON, says: “The intelligent cost restructuring and the focus of the team on well set targets have significantly increased our turnover and have brought us new projects in the first half of 2010, a very difficult period for most of the players on the construction market.”
