Health & Safety Policies

OCTAGON CONTRACTING & ENGINEERING S.A. endeavours to undertake its operations in a manner that guarantees the achievement of an effective risk management of its projects both during preplanning and execution.

The projects’ Health and Safety Management is considered to be an integral part of the good management and thus it is the responsibility of line managers to give due regard to Health and Safety to ensure, as far as it is reasonably practicable , that employees, other persons, property and the business itself is not exposed to unnecessary risk.

The Safety Department provides advice and guidance to Line Management accordingly.

The objective of the Health and Safety Policy is to provide a mechanism for the principle of risk assessment to be applied from the earliest stages- i.e. during project analysis; planning; therefore allowing the construction of all projects to commence with comprehensive information having been provided to relevant staff and wherever acheievable avoidable risks having been eliminated from the construction start stage. The construction industry has many inherent hazards that require managing- the success of the Health and Safety Plan relies on all personnel taking a proactive approach to Health and Safety and working together to achieve a positive safety culture.

Positive monitoring of Health and Safety is essential for our business, to develop profiency in managing workplace safety, therefore our Health and Safety Plan including straightforward Management reporting mechanism- this is not a form to record critical aspects, but an opportunity to identify areas of strength, weakness and areas where targets are to be aimed for.

The keys to successfully managing workplace Health and Safety Plans are to prioritize risk and achieve communication of all relevant parties.

The managers of OCTAGON will ensure that all reasonably practicable measures are taken to:

  • Ensure a healthy and safe working environment for all persons entitled to be on site and keep the site in an orderly state, appropriate to avoidance of danger to such persons;
  • Prevent against all forms of accidents which could lead to loss of life, injurey to personnel, loss or damage of property;
  • Raise awareness of health, safety and environmental aspects through information, training, use of approved plants, tools and equipment.
